Congrats to us!

My colleagues and I at Illinois State University Marketing and Communications took home 16 ADDY Awards from the Peoria Ad Club on February 16, 2012, including a Judge’s Choice award, 3 Gold, and 12 Silver awards. I was honored for 8 of my design pieces, including the Judge’s Choice award and a Gold ADDY for my Pride & Passion brochure. We partied like rock stars till 8 p.m., it was a work night.

UPDATE: 2 projects went on to win Silver ADDYs at the District level, including the Pride & Passion brochure.

Magazine spread sneak peek

Illinois State magazine May issue coverSneak peek today of the opening spread for a feature I just finished on Ralph Lauren model Pierre Woods for the May issue of Illinois State magazine. Woods is a GQ cover model, the face of Ralph Lauren’s 2008 Olympic Collection, and a pretty down-to-earth dude. We did a candid, tandem interview/photo shoot and I think his personality really came out in the images.

The Groupawn

I just finished a 2-page editorial feature on Josh Stevens (aka The Groupawn), the winner of the Live off Groupon yearlong challenge. This is a pretty amazing story. Josh traveled the United States for an entire year, and even made it to England, and he couldn’t touch cash once; relying on redeeming or trading Groupon coupons for everything he needed, including a place to sleep. View the full article below.

And check out the video entry that got Stevens into the contest:

Check out my new ride

I’m not typically a fan of vehicle graphics, but I was pretty pumped when this guy arrived over the summer. I finally had an opportunity to photograph it last week (outside, in 20 degree weather).

This is the second vehicle I’ve designed, and it turned out way better than the first which was a full wrap. This one is more like a vinyl decal application that only covers specific areas of the van. Prairie Signs in Bloomington handled the installation.
